Problems are the whetstone we use to sharpen our destiny

Courage is the power to face your difficulties. It comes from the reserves of the heart and are more powerful than outside circumstances.

Recognize destiny is bigger than any problem and you gain the courage necessary to overcome fear.

Obstacles look large or small as we see ourselves in the looking class of character.

Courage is the capacity to clinch what can be imagined. Then we are able to rise above the present reality.

The seeds to success are in your mind; so think big

“What the mind of a man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” – Napoleon Hill.

Visualize all that you want in life. After all, you and you alone are the master of your own destiny. Then you make the mental blue print, and begin to build.

The imagination will reveal how to turn possibilities into reality. Make every thought and every fact, that comes into the realm of influence pay you percentages.

Mental images work and produce as they reveal the road to run on. Think of things not as they are but as they will be.

Don’t just dream, be creative.

The will to succeed springs from the well that you shall succeed.

Success: be open to and make change a positive part of life

Q9Avoid breaking of the spirit when things don’t go your way. Security comes from the willingness to accept change and being able to sway insecurities. Change is inevitable and safety does not come from standing still; but growing, moving and remaining energized.

True knowledge comes from dealing with anything that may happen to you. So, bet on your ideas, take calculated risks and act on your dreams. There is no permanent security on this earth, there is only abundance and opportunity.

“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” – Peter Drucker

Success comes when you do what you are passionate about. Find your craving and lose yourself with complete abandon. Passion is a sustainable source of positive energy. When you are full of spirit with what you are doing, time no longer matters as you get lost in enthusiasm. There is nothing but an abundance of time and energy and bliss is getting lost in time. As you find your fascination, life will find you.

Part of drive is authenticity. It’s imperative to tell the truth, honor yourself, be wise and smart. I enjoy networking; determining if a need exists in someones current situation and then connecting them to opportunity.

This involves asking questions and then listening: “What do you do?” “I sell real estate.” “What does that entail?” SILENCE. “How long have you done it?” “Several years.” “That’s great. How are you being affected by what’s going on in the economy?” “Oh, the real estate market is on fire!” “Yes dear, tell me about your business. How are you doing.” SILENCE. Everyone wants to look good and appear successful. At what cost? It’s easy to look on a company website and see what someone has listed and what has been sold. “How do you like what you are doing?” “I love it!” “What do you love about it?” SILENCE. “Have you ever thought about doing anything else?” I think for many it is the idea of being successful that attracts them to a career. Where is the passion? Where is the purpose? How are you fulfilling your dreams?

Many entrepreneurs start their journey to create and build. For most it’s the allure and calling of working for oneself and breaking free of the corporate 9-5 rat race. Some want time, freedom and flexibility to work from home, spend time with the family and travel.

Many start a business to become debt free; to pay off a mortgage or a student loan. Financial freedom. Many career professionals; realtors, mortgage brokers, athletes, doctors, author, actors, insurance agents, sales and stockbrokers have turned to the internet to make their fortunes or make a full-time or extra income in addition to what they are currently doing. Why?

“Winners never quit and quitters never win.”
- Vince Lombardi

It take multiple streams of income to survive in todays economy. That is why great business leaders have a propensity for action that is legendary. They stay in the moment and work with it; focusing on doing a few things well and they build upon that success.

Leaders listen more than they talk and they ask a lot of questions. It takes time and effort to build something of value, importance and substance. Luck is never a good barometer of success. Patience and persistence are what save the day. I always applaud the visionary that will devote an extra hour a day for another stream of income so they can do what what they are passionate about.

It takes 5-7 years to build a viable, sustainable business of significance. Part of staying in the game is to prove the averages wrong, go easy on yourself and if the road takes longer than you thought, don’t stop. Success is just around the corner.

If you are unsure about what you are uniquely qualified to do, perhaps asking someone a few quick questions will steer you in the right direction. Be open to feedback and opportunity then let passion guide you.

The tides; they-be-a-changing

975495_591645930865976_14594960_nDecide today will be your moment for success and prepare for it to happen.

People often handle life as they do bad weather. They while away the hours waiting for the winds to wane. Yet the tide of opportunity comes to everyone. It’s interesting to watch the news as a hurricane is about to strike. Astounded, a reporter asks,

“Sir, you are in a low lying area, will you leave?”

“Hell no! The tides, they-be-a-changing, but nah, the good Lord will take care of me. I’m praying for a blessing and that will determine which way I will go.”

We see the pictures of the destruction and devastation of ruin on all levels. The man on the news wasn’t prepared and didn’t have the sense to leave. Ask him what he will do now? “Good ole Uncle Sam is gonna help me rebuild. The man upstairs will send me a blessing if and when He see’s fit.”

Opportunity and success knock all the time, but you must be ready for it. When your chance comes, will you have the equipment to capitalize?

The race is not to the swift or the battle of the strong; time and chance happen to everyone. Take a second look at what appears to be someone’s “good luck.” You’ll find not luck but preparation, planning and success-producing thinking.

When you’re prepared for opportunity your chance for success is sure to come. The season of failure is the best time for sowing the seeds of success.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again; expecting a different result. People approach me daily about building wealth; retiring in 3-5 years; owning a business; coaching and motivation. I quickly ask a few questions to determine if there is a need or a desire: What do you want to know and why do you want to know? What does their current situation entail? How long have they done that and what did they do before? How has the economy affected them? Then I listen to who they are. Not what they say.

Then the fun begins. Find out if they like what they do and if they have ever thought of doing anything else. What other industries are they familiar with and what experience have they had. Why were they not successful and would they be open to looking at a company that didn’t have any of those obstacles? People will tell you who they are if you listen.

An associate came across a man in Florida who was broke and desperately seeking success (so he says). My associate asked a few questions and it appeared there was a need for change. On the follow up the unemployed man said, “Headed out shopping and on vacation; will try to look at your company information tonight. I’m not connecting myself to anything until I start using a product and am sold on it and there is no telling, I might take on an umbrella of different ideas at some point. I have a job interview next week and that will also determine my path and I have another job opportunity behind that one with another company I have been dying to work for. I feel a change coming on and just need to weigh my options.”

Ah, the tides; they-be-a-changing. Yet, nothing changes until we change and the tides of opportunity come to all; we must be prepared to accept the responsibility.

To whom much is given, much is expected.

How to turn defeat into a win

419144_590863567610879_672898076_n“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” – Michael Jordan

The more you try, the greater your chances of success. Time and the law of averages are always on your side. Risk taking is the first step towards winning the game. Without an attempt, there is no win. “What’s next?”

Stay in the game, the trophy you seek is closer than you think. Don’t give up or get discouraged. From every attempt you attract success. Those that make no mistakes, usually gain nothing. So set your mind to overcome obstacles and be victorious through defeat. You won’t win when you are afraid to lose. “What’s next?”

Defeat can zap anyones disposition; it doesn’t have to. A loss is a great learning opportunity. Watch a news conference after a big game. The winning coach and team congratulate the opposing side, “We played a good game. We stayed focused and capitalized on some fumbles and ran with the ball. It was team work.” The losing team, “They’re a great team and played a good game. We had some challenges, allowed turn-overs and fumbled the ball. We’re making some changes and moving forward.” There is semblance to each story. “What’s next?”

When I was in direct sales for a cosmetics company, I made it a point to talk with ten people a day. Everywhere there were men and women with skin within three feet of me. Everyone has skin. Please note: some skin is thicker than others, so I looked for people that were smiling. “Who’s next?”

“Great shoes. Where did you get them?”
“Saks Fifth Avenue.” “
The store with a shoe department that has it’s own zip code!”
“What?”
“Have you never been to the store on Fifth Avenue in New York City? The department is so big it has it’s own zip code.”
“You have to be kidding me?!”
“What do you do for a living?”
“I am a realtor. What do you do?”
“I own a cosmetics company.”
“That’s why your skin looks amazing.”
“What do you use? By the way, has the economy affected your real estate business?”

It’ a snap to determine if someone has skin; has the resources to buy cosmetics and a needs an additional income. After a few more moments you learn background, education, employment, family and social life. People will tell you anything if you are genuine, smile and are interested in them. Ten people a day. An hour a day. Wherever I went. “Who’s next?”

The law of averages is always on your side, so book an appointment for a phone call or over the internet, get them some samples and follow up. “Who’s next?”

Guess what? Not everyone was polite or open. Don’t take it personally or be deterred because someone didn’t align with what was offered. Everyone’s a great team player and will play a good game when you talk to the right person. There are challenges so make changes; revise the playbook and move onward and upward. “Who’s next?”

The days when someone bought a beauty set or started a business? It wasn’t me. We capitalized on what they desired. They had a need for better skin, more income or a greater opportunity. Answer their questions, provide great service, stay in the game and be focused; work together as a team to create a win-win situation. “Who’s Next?”

Follow the yellow brick road?

316822_10150291494812415_719982414_7949884_245049952_n.jpgIn search of your very own Oz? Follow the yellow brick road and find yourself and the silver lining along the way.

There is never success without failure. Just know that any experience can be transformed into something of value. It all depends on you and the way you look at things.

What may appear to be stumbling blocks and defeats are actually stepping stones to victory if you remain determined.

Adversity is nothing more than the seed for eventual advantage.
In every defeat there is a lesson showing you how to win the next round. Problems are mere opportunities.  Remember, it is always darkest before dawn and while it’s dark enjoy the stars.

They key to success is to stay motivated. With distractions all around, it’s easy to get side-tracked and off course. Life happens. There are challenges, disturbances and interruptions. People along the road to success will either help or hamper. Learn from the ‘hampers’ and thank the ‘helpers.’

Every career is populated with politics, pauses, lost clients, recessions and productivity shortages. You may have a career that you “love” with a motivating mentor and a nurturing corporate culture, but at times you need something more to keep you in place and your mental and physical space clear of clutter that could zap the spirits.

How to stay inspired and wrapped in the silver lining? Here are some tips to employ to stay on top of the game:

Read inspiring books and articles

Many start with Zig Ziglar and Dale Carnegie. Take a journey with The Holy Bible or The Book of Mormon. Perhaps a mystical journey or a self help book. During a dark moment of the soul a friend gave me, “Help, Thanks, Wow,” by Anne Lamott. Prayer and spirituality simplified, it was the inspiration I needed to carry on the journey; to be able to ask for help; appreciate what was on the plate and remain grateful for the blessings that surrounded. It started a passion to write, which lead to….

Writing a blog

Share your passion with the world (or your neighbors). Write a journal of the perfect business that you wish you had. The greatest business ideas come from writing. Mary Kay Ash put pen to paper after a career with Stanley Home Products, where she trained the men who leap-frogged over her.

The result? She broke the glass ceiling and revolutionized the role  for millions of women around the world. She changed how we do business and was named one of the most influential women of the century. It began with a frustration and an idea she wrote about.

Writing is an effective and valuable way to stimulate the mind. It brings your passion to the forefront so that you can solve a problem and create a solution. Become a published author and cross that off of the bucket list. Writing paved the way for a passion about fitness and wellness.

Exercise

Walk, run, lift weights, get the blood flowing. It’s good for the mind, body and spirit. I walk early in the morning with the dog as I listen to the nature greet the world before the city wakes up. No distractions, the mind is alert and fired up with inspiration and motivation. New ideas flow in as the soul reunites with the body. The body is a miraculous piece of equipment and when it is running like a finely tuned engine, you will always feel at your peak.

Eat healthy

As the say in Accounting 101 FIFO (First In; First Out). The same is true for nutrition; GIGO (Garbage In: Garbage Out). With a toxic world that is polluted it isn’t a riddle to figure out why we are confronted with declining spirits, productivity and a health and wellness crisis.

In order to transform your life; reach your goals and dreams the body needs nourishment. If you want healthy and manageable weight; more energy and athletic performance; graceful and healthy aging and an overall sense of empowerment there is no limit to what you can do if you live with a healthy body. When the mind, body and spirit are aligned you inspire others.

Inspiring quotes

Daily I post inspiring quotes on my Facebook page. It gives me something to think about. Sometimes funny and always poignant. The soul starves for nourishment. I post three times a day as it’s fun to see who is taking the journey with me. Instead of reading the news I reach out to someone who is interested in a daily devotional and get to know them. “Tell me about you? What are you up to? What are you working on?” They may be reaching out and a quick conversation can turn into a business lead or an opportunity. Fresh new ideas and people coming into the stream of life keep the realm of abundance overflowing.

Wealth without enjoyment is of little consequence

316822_10150291494812415_719982414_7949884_245049952_nRiches lie within you; not in your material possessions

Wealth without enjoyment is of little consequence. Real gifts in life are of the head and heart. Satisfaction comes when you appreciate what you have. While success is acquiring what you want; true happiness is wanting what you get. It’s not how much you have, but how much of life that you enjoy.

Above the proscenium of the stage of my alma mater, Woodrow Wilson High School, in Dallas, Texas is inscribed Proverbs 4:23, “Keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life.”

For the pursuit of success many are rewarded with material gain, how to keep your heart with diligence as abundance and bounty fill your cup?

Find your inner voice, smile and tell the truth.

Find your inner voice

Take ‘me’ time. Enjoy the journey and the quiet moments along the way. Carve out special space during the day to remember why you are on the road to prosperity.

As an entrepreneur its hard to shut the mind down when you are the sole proprietor. Especially during the beginning stages of building. It can be overwhelming and the journey lonely. The mind often races as you think of your venture; the people you need to contact; the leads to follow up with and yes, how do to pay the bills. What have you missed? Have you left any ideas out? What is the next move? Who do you follow up with? When is the next deadline? Where is the money? It’s hard to turn the mind off and at times, you wont be able to.

Distract yourself with anticipation. You may not be able to take a vacation or have the wherewithal to run a way for a jaunt. Reading, yoga, meditation, walking the dog in the park, a dinner with friends, listening to music; great escapes and past-the-time moments.

Anything to stimulate the mind. Looking at a computer screen, with a phone to the ear is a long and lonely road. I listen to classical music and broadway shows. Great effort, talent and time create a masterpiece and if Cole Porter or George Gershwin can do it, so can you. In the quiet enjoyment of a ballad or the stimulation of a showstopper, the senses are aroused and the brain often triggers a new idea, a high or an inspiration. Perhaps you recall walks in Central Park in Fall or the still blue ocean of the beaches of Fire Island or Maui. The sea turtles, the chorus and call of migrating whales in the harbor.

Smile

Attitude shifts with a smile and there is power in pleasantness. The face relaxes as the eyebrows raise, the mouth turns upward and content returns. The voice lilts and energy is restored. Remind yourself, “Fake it until you make it. No one ever followed a parked car.” An stalled car on the side of the road always gets towed.

Smiling carries over to those around you. People naturally gravitate to the smiling face. When you are happy you attract others towards you. Rarely, a grouse will you meet when you are smiling. When you smile, the worlds smiles with you and at the end of the day, week or month, remember the work you did today may not bear fruit for 30, 60 or 90 days, it will eventually and life isn’t so bad after all.

Smile big, often and remember to laugh. From a warm heart and a ready smile comes the oyster and the pearl you search for.

Be authentic, genuine and real: tell the truth

Growing up I gravitated to those that were ahead of the game; to those who were sage and wise. Now that I am a little wiser I associate with the young at heart. Where the jokes flow freely and laughs fill the room.

Spontaneity and the unique catch the attention and the young at heart win the day. Life is too short for seriousness and a veil of tears. Let loose and intuition will guide you.

If you feel stuck or in a rut, look around you. Who are you hanging around? We become like the five people we associate with. If they are going nowhere fast; you already have one foot in the grave. Associate with those that are successful. Ask for advice and for help. Network with those that are well connected.

The greatest gift of an authentic life is honesty. Tell the truth. In moments of panic and financial fear, it’s easy to stretch the truth, make claims and harness a falsity. Daily an inquiry goes out, “What do you do and what does that entail? How long have you done it?” “Tell me about you.” “What did you do before?” It’s amazing what people will say for a favorable opinion. It is perfectly polite to tell the truth or better yet, “I need help. Can you show me a different way?”

Stay active, energetic, be kind to yourself and remember a job well done is always rewarded and that is something to look forward to each day.

Attitude is everything in a game worth winning

Bowl of Cherries LargeAttitude is everything. So, how to stay energetic and upbeat as a business builder?

We are responsible for attitude and you can choose to act positively or react negatively to any situation. Our outlook isn’t determined by circumstances, it’s how you respond to any situation is the key!

Challenges we face are not as important as our approach towards influences. The mindset determines success or failure. How we respond to events, not the event itself determines demeanor.

Each of us has the ability to walk into a room and light the place up or tear the paint off the ceiling. With a smile or a frown. Many comment, “You are always so upbeat and energetic. How do you do it?” My energy is infectious and I am always smiling. They ask, “what are you up to now? You’re always on the go! No matter what happens, you land on your feet.” Is it demeanor or disposition? It’s a decision!

It’s easy to enjoy an upbeat, energetic, cheerful lifestyle. Choose hope and looking for the positive in each situation.

Find Your Stride

Why work twenty hours a day when you can decide to make wise decisions and let time work for you. If you are constantly laboring with no rest and little results, something isn’t working. Occasionally, you may need to sprint to a finish line, however consistent efforts over the long haul brings better results. Life, like work is a marathon, not a sprint.

One of my grandfathers sold insurance. He passed away in 1988 and to this day I still get checks in the mail for the work he did fifty years ago. He was also a real estate investor and checks from notes he held still come in. He invested wisely and there were royalties from lumber, oil and gas. Always other streams of income. When the stock market dipped, as it’s want to do, or there was a short term loss in one of the other sources, the bump in the road was just that. A short term stop, but there were other rivers feeding the lake of capital.

He told me, “Son, if you understood the concept of residual income, you would walk through a brick wall to get it.” He was right!

Duplicate your efforts

Each of us has the same number of hours in a week, in a month, in a year. There is only so much we can do alone in those hours. Trying to do anything more results in a diminishing return on the results of the hours worked. We each have a peak and we all know that we have limits.

By teaching others a skill set, not only do you set them up for success, but your guarantee your own fortune as the work and results of the team reward everyone collectively. Money flows in long after the sweat of the initial work has dried.

I am a big fan of relationship marketing. Donald Trump was on “The Tonight Show” and Jay Leno asked him, “if you lost all of your money how would you rebuild your fortune?” Trump said, “I would start a network marketing business.” The audience laughed and some said, “boo.”

The Donald turned to the audience and said, “That is why I am up here and you are down there.” He is right. Never take advice from a fool sitting in the dark. Robert G. Allen says, “I’ve owned restaurants, apartment buildings and even part of the Utah Jazz. Network Marketing beats them all.”

Successful entrepreneurs start network marketing businesses for many reasons. The start up cost is low, they learn valuable skills such as public speaking; sales and development; a positive mind set; organizational skills; building team players AND, it’s the money stupid!

I work with many people from all walks of life who have turned to the internet to make their fortune while doing what they are currently working on: realtors, investors, insurance agents, coaches, personal trainers, authors, head hunters, sales people, financial planners, social media experts, speakers, actors, lawyers, evangelists, teachers, bloggers, musicians, military, veterans, parents and the unemployed. “Show me how to do what you are doing, with the time that I have available and I will look.”

I love the book, “The 4-Hour Workweek.” Escape the 9-5, work anywhere in the world you want to work and live the lifestyle you dreamed of. As Zig Ziglar said, “Help enough people get what it is what they way, and you will get what you want.” He is right and that is how every successful person got that way. They took many people on the journey with them. Duplicate your efforts.

Stop Wasting Time

Work the hours during the time of your peak performance. Find a time when the mind is clear and your are most inspired and productive. Time optimization is knowing which hours you will accomplish more in 60 minutes than most get done in an entire day. I get up at 5:00 am. I can get my personal writing out of the way; make a list of six important things to do; set my schedule; hit the gym; run personal errands and be at the desk at 11:00 am each day to run my personal business. I am then available for my team. I control my calendar and the hands on the clock of time. The evening time is for brainstorming, emails, phone calls, clearing off the desk, reviewing and planning the days ahead.

It’s important to set the pace of life so that I spend time with others. I love people and I need my time with them. To live, laugh and love. I am excited and the people I associate with are excited about life. I surround myself with people that are doing better than I, to ask questions and for help. There are many that have a vested interest in my success. Find those people in your life.

Let Social Media Work For You

The good news is social media has changed the world and how we connect with others. We used to be related by six degrees of separation. Now it is no more than three.

The worst thing about social media is it can be a waste of time. I don’t care how many times you go to the gym in a day, the kind of underwear you are wearing, how much liquor you consumed or how many gallons of ice cream you ate this weekend and why you are now depressed.

I see people promoting products, goods and services and they are getting paid for the advertising. Sometimes posts are encouraging and other times its sad. That’s a good time to disconnect and make room for more friends.

I use social media to reach out and connect. Find people that I don’t know around the corner and down the block; across town; over the river; in the next state; across the border and over seas. There are over a billion people on the planet waiting for you and your opportunity to change their lives. Use social media to build your wealth and your circle of influence. It’s as simple as connecting, communicating and closing the deal.
It’s easy to find people that share your values and to source ambitious people. All you need is an open mind and the smarts to get started.

The only thing to fear is fear itself.

316822_10150291494812415_719982414_7949884_245049952_nAction is key to overcoming obstacles. Fear can be one of the greatest mountains to climb. The view from the top of the mountain we climb is the most beautiful of all. When we do the thing we fear the most the crutch disappears.

Confront fears and make an inventory of them, understand them and get to know them and how they play a part in your journey. Then they can be cast aside and clearance to receive the blessing is given. Action starts with making up the mind to walk with courage through fear. So instead of cowering before the barrier; the mole-hill magically melts away.

One of the greatest gifts to receive is the discovery we can do anything we were afraid we could not do. If the only thing to fear is fear itself; when we face the joker that hampers us the most, the door to freedom swings open.

One of the greates fears that everyone faces is financial insecurity. That fear plays out in so many areas of our lives and society as a whole. The reality is there is an unlimited supply of abundance in the world. The obstacle is that there is a distribution supply barrier. Anyone can have bounty. The beauty of wealth is learning how to tap into the source.

The successful classes have always enjoyed multiple streams of income. They do not rely on a ‘steady paycheck.’ They constantly seek out new opportunities to create capital. Many are turning to the internet to earn an extra full-time income in addition to what they are currently doing.

To promote prosperity and exploring options, it’s important to understand a few key concepts.

  • What are you doing to acheive your goals?
  • How are you going to do to replace a lost income?
  • Who are your mentors and how are they preparing you for the long term financial journey?
  • What are you doing today that is helping you acvieve your goals over time?
  • When do you plan on reaching your financial destination? Do you have six months to a years worth of income in a working account? A prudent reserve?
  • Are you open to looking at and doing something else?

For most the answer is “I don’t know,” “I haven’t thought of it,” “Who?” ”I have a great job. I love what I do.” “Soon, later, not now, I’m busy.” “I don’t have time.”

I enjoy exploring options and opportunities with people.
